when i was in los angeles for a few days last week, i took a lot of photos…as i do…but with my “sesame says” course running, my commercial clients, and my life… i have not had the chance to sit down and actually edit them all. here are a few. i can’t believe how grown up these two are getting. it was so amazing to have a chance to spend some time with them.

this past weekend, my kick-ass husband rode 210 + kilometers for charity and gemma made an adorable “go, daddy, go” sign for him and we waited to wave it for him at the finish line. look, isn’t it cute, oh wait, that’s right, the photos are unedited on my computer and will stay there for at least a week if i keep up this schedule. she really wanted to take some shots to school to share with her class as well, but see, the printer ink, well, that should arrive in the mail just about the time i finish editing the photos.

I most wish I had an instant camera when it's just me and my family, doing the goofy things we do on a daily basis. The silly smiles that make everyone laugh. A way to instantly capture the dances my kids put on. A camera to have when we're around extended family and it's the right photo at the right time and then it can be given, instead of stuck in my computer for weeks or months. Yay for instant cameras.
Almost daily I long for an an instant camera. My grandma tried to give me one years ago, but alas you can't buy film for it any longer…it was an old pop up she purchased in 1970…the receipt was still inside. I do believe that back then she paid around $60 for it!!! I miss the instant camera like an old friend. When I was a child…I loved it when she would take a picture…and the camera would spit it out the bottom. I would hold it in in the palm of my hand…so anxious to see. Very exciting when the image started to come through!!! I very often wish I had one… I think its the perfect alternative and happy medium to 35mm film developing (waiting, waiting until you've used all the film and then developing, and then printing and the new 'digital age'…uploading/downloading, editing, printing, etc. etc. The instant camera is truly instant….we all love that! I wish I had one to take a pic and hand it to the kiddos so they can experience the wonderful instant joy of instant photos. They have to be one of the coolest cameras ever made!
Love the photos, the two with them together are really cute. I wish I had one of these for my wedding coming up next summer. We are making our own "photobooth" to put pictures in our guestbook, and it would be great for our guests to be able to instantly see them and hang them up. Being poor students does not allow for much creativity or spending, but it would be great to capture those instant memories of our backyard wedding.
i always wish i had an instant camera!
I wish I had an instant camera, when like you, we make transatlantic family trips. It is so much funner to be able to hand out pictures right then. Somehow emailing and sending pictures via mail, just doesn't have the same spontaneous, exciting effect.
i would love to have had an instant camera for all the moments with friends when everything seemed perfect in life. the memories may someday fade, but a picture lasts a lifetime!
I whish I had an instant camera every time I remember I have to take my photos to the store to have them printed. But most of all because there are som many beautful thing to do with instant photos, they are unique
I don't really need to win the camrea, just thought I'd let you know I love this series of photos. And I can relate… I"m getting to my early september photos now.
This is a time in my life where pictures are SO important. I'm an Air Force wife living abroad. We are currently stationed in Italy, and I don't know how many times I have missed amazing things that I may never see again because I did not have a camera, or because my old one was not working properly. Grape Harvesting in August, Italian weddings in churches I drive past, little old ladies on bikes, bright and colorful flowers hanging from balconies. Many of my friends and family tell me that they get to see the world through my pictures…..all the more reason I would LOVE to have an instant camera!
I wish I had an instant camera for family get-togethers. When I take photos during the holidays and then email them later, the digital files just don't have the same satisfaction. Also, it's a hassle for someone to take my digital file somewhere to get a print. With an instant camera, there's instant gratification.
I wish I had an instant camera every time I see a beautiful child out with their parents, so I could take their picture and give it to them on the spot. There is a gorgeous little girl in my daughter's dance class that just begs for a photo, the little guy we pass at my son's indoor soccer games, etc. I'll never see them again, but it would be nice to capture these special children being themselves. As a parent, I would love for someone to randomly ask to take a photo like that of my child and give it to me right then and there. It can be easy to forget how precious our time with our children is in the hustle and bustle of everyday. I think this would be a neat way to remind people. (I think taking a photo for me to keep of a strangers child sounds creepy, so this would only work with an instant camera.)
With three young children, all homeschooled, I have zero time to give our extended family the photos they always ask for. Since I am a photographer they just hound me. This past weekend, my husband's grandmother made a huge stink about how she never gets any pictures. I know she is referring to the 4th of july photo I took of her and the kids that I never got around to processing for her. I wish I had a camera that would provide an instant picture for family members. At this point in my life, I am just happy to be documenting. I do not have the time on the back end to produce prints or emails for everyone. I totally wish I had this instant camera! Save me from the Grandma, Rachel!
I wish I'd had an instant camera when I took photos of my neighbor with her giant squash.
Hi rachel! first i want to say that i love your photography i always did! you´re so creative and inspirational! this two here are so cute!!!
well i actually always think of instant film. especially because the photo just comes out. it is a little surprise. it is a lovely time when you wait until the picture appears. and then it is a wonderful memory that you can keep forever! instant film is magical and if i would win this camera i´d be the happiest grl ever!!!!!
Oh so many times. I shoot almost everything in Raw and then I have to process it. I rarely have time to get to it right away. I would love to have this for everyday use. It would be so nice to capture something and instantly have the pictures processed. Oh a girl can dream can't she!
i wish i had this camera b/c…well b/c it is just so incredibly cool!
I wish I had an instant camera every single time that I am in Uganda. I work for a non-profit called Invisible Children and I always end up bringing a digital camera to take photos of my experiences. The kids always go absolutely bonkers about seeing pictures of themselves (except for the babies and toddlers, then they're terrified) and couldn't stop grinning at their images. One year someone DID bring a Polaroid camera, and the kids were so ecstatic about actually getting to keep a photograph of themselves, it was better than Christmas morning. Of course, It'd be great to have an instant camera when I go back to Uganda in December, but of course, that decision is up to you!
Peace.
i've been longing for this camera ever since it came out. why? if my kids can see and hold the results of picture taking right away, maybe they'll be a bit more motivated to actuallly let me take their picture in the first place
Would that I had an instant camera for those quick visits with grandmother! We could snap a picture and leave it with her immediately rather than emailing it to her non-existent email address.
I wish I had an instant camera to pass the joy of photography on to my son, he can instantly see what he created!
When I have week loads (hmm.. make that year loads) of pictures on my computer waiting to be printed. Oh how it would make life easy…
I have worked with orphans numerous times overseas. Most of them have never had a picture of themselves or their friends. We would take pictures with our digital camera, print them the next day, and give them out to the kids…..if we saw them again. Many times we didn't. I wish I had an instant camera so that I could give them pictures right then and not have to promise that "maybe later you'll have this picture I took!"
I was in a wedding recently and was thinking how much fun it would be to have an instant camera during the reception, so we could look at pics during the after-party and the brunch the next day! Events like that – parties, family gatherings – always make me wish I had an instant camera.
I wish I had an instant camera with me this past weekend when I was at the finish line for the Nike Women's Half Marathon in SF, CA and wanted to give my partner a nice instant gift with a photo of her finish!
it would be so cool to be out in the city and be able to capture an interesting moment, and then give the photo to a person who was involved… or keep for myself!
I wish I had an instant camera during a going away party for a friend. It would have been so nice to take photos of people that night and been able to give them to her right then, instead of waiting for everyone to edit and upload their shots from the night. I really like being able to share art and those moments instantly!
I want this camera so I could take all the pictures I wish I could share with others while on the job (I'm a photographer for a newspaper). My work copyrights my photos, so I can't legally give portraits to the beautiful people I photograph and I wish I could. With this, I could shoot, give and leave. Perfect. People deserve to have their photo taken and to keep it too.
I wish I had an instant camera when I went for an out of country trip. It is ok that I will get the digital photos printed after the trip, but it will be even greater if I can get the photos right away to share with friends.
I really like to take photographs at shows. I like to get into the thick of the crowd, and take pictures of the band playing, and the people having a good time. While my dslr is great for this, it would also be really awesome to have an instant camera, so that I could snap some shots of the band/people, jot my website on the back, and give it to them, almost like a photobusinesscard! That would be AWESOME!
I wish I had an instant camera when I'm taking "100 Strangers" photos on the street. I love street photography on film, and instead of sharing an electronic copy of a portrait with a stranger-turned-new-friend, I wish I could give them an instant shot on film. Mainly because it would make all of us really happy. And doesn't the world need a little (er, lot) more happy moments between strangers?
In case you didn't know, 100Strangers.com is the place to find out more about this project to challenge oneself photographically and with interpersonal skills by approaching strangers on the street and asking them for a portrait. So far I've completed 23 of my own: http://tinyurl.com/yk3col7
I would love to have an instant camera becasue im a college student and everyday stuff is happening around me…like the arts mayors performances or when someone does something in the classroom that i say "gee…i would love to remember this forever" Its ok to have a digital camera and have pictures on your computer but theres something of an instant satisfaction to be able to see the fleeting moment just seconds after it happened…it makes it an instant classic…
I would take tons of pictures of everyday life, of college life, of cute guys (of course), of my friends…anything to preserve the memory…
Also, i wasnt here for the first boom of instant film, id like to experience it
I wished I had an instant camera the last time I went to my boyfriend's son's soccer game. It would have been perfect to catch his many blocks in the goal!
When my first daughter was born, my only camera was my DSLR. I wasn't allowed it in the delivery room because "it's much too big – haven't you got a smaller camera?" I didn't, so they wouldn't let me take it in, which meant I couldn't take some instant pictures of my brand-new daughter being handed over to my wife for her first cuddles by the midwife. Amazing experience, but heart-breaking too.
It would have been amazing to have those pictures for my daughter's baby journal, and to show friends and family one of the most memorable 'snapshots' of our new family all together for the first time.
Our 2nd baby is due at the end of November, and I now have 2 DSLR's, but I still don't have an easy-to-handle, smaller point & shoot. I'm not looking forward to the same conversation with the midwife….
I consistently long for an instant camera. When sending last minute cards to relatives who aren't internet (facebook) saavy, when I want to leave spontanious and instant messages (like leaving fun photo notes under the windshield of friends' cars). I've had the internet and electronic photo sharing my entire adult life– the novelty of an instant printed photo just moments after taking it is so intruiging.
My 95 year-old grandmother doesn't own a computer or have access to anything where she can view digital images. There have been many times I wish I had an instant camera to capture moments to share with her.
This would be an awesome camera to have for my (art) students. Kids love pics of themselves, and it would be great to watch them take photos of each other to use as pics from which to draw their self portraits, and to see what they choose to take photos of outdoors in prep for painting. Cameras have a way of making every day doings a bit more fun, and I can see the kids working together and having fun figuring out the 'best' photos. Instant gratification is always a plus, too – watching and waiting for their picture to develop right in front of them. Very exciting.
AH! I have been wanting a instant camera FOREVER. While I am young I want to take pictures in which I could look back. Something fast that needs no edit.
I have a 2 year old daughter and another baby on the way. My little girl is absolutely fascinated with pictures and goes crazy when she sees pics of herself and my wife when I show them to her on my phone. An instant camera would be so great to snap candids and give them to her to play with. I used to have an old Polaroid, but I cannot find film anymore. I tried a pogo printer, but it is awful from my mac and does not interface with my iphone without jailbreaking, which I would like to avoid. An Instax would be grerat to use.
Everytime I take my little puglet in her stroller though my country neighborhood, I wish I had an instant camera. The other day I went with my dad to pick up some of my grandparents old chairs for my house-they were at one of these indoor storage unit places…kinda creepy, kinda eery, but great lighting and awesome metals + red…I wish I had, had one then too
awesome giveaway—–
rare moments. when you want to retell it, but fall short of words…that's when you wish you could back to that instant and take that photo. earlier this summer i was volunteering in cambodia designing a month-long program for street kids who had never imagined that they could be a photographer much less an artist who could feed them and their family. one of my kids was truly remarkable. his talent unfolded in the photos he took and his enthusiasm to share it with others was contagious. one afternoon he wanted a copy of his photo to show his parents, but it turned out the printer i was using no longer wanted to work. the printing of photos was sort of magical for my kids to watch, because it was almost like an instant camera where they could have something tangible to look at that they just captured in the same day. when the printer broke down that afternoon the disappointment on the kid's face felt like a kick to my stomach. suddenly, the excitement he was feeling, the hope he had in his mind, whatever it was that had him smiling disappeared. kids are so quick and candid with their emotions, but in all truth life is like that with us. so, sure: instant cameras has it advantage
I’m aspiring photography. Photography is my life. Shooting 100 photos in a spam of an hour is not unusual for me. I have been documenting my daily life for about 3 years now.. and I would love something instant. I can instantly add the photo to a journal, complete with my daily activities; keeping my memories as vivid as possible!
i have a nephew who seems to morph into something new right before my eyes. i wish i had an instant camera to capture some of those changes on something tangible like film but sort of ephemeral at the same time
I really wish I'd had an instant camera anytime I have ever been on a roadtrip, especially when I was touring with my friends' band. There's just something about Polaroids and traveling that goes hand-in-hand that a DSLR cannot match.
After shopping with my girlfriend to buy a wedding dress for our friend’s wedding, she felt “fat” and “ugly” because she didn’t think anything looked good on her. I kept reassuring her that she looked beautiful and amazing and magical and perfect but she wouldn’t believe me.
If I had an Instant Camera then, I would have taken a photo of what I saw and showed her just how beautiful and amazing and magical and perfect she really was.
I really wish I had an istant camera yesterday night, when I was at the park, with three boys I babysit and my GINORMOUS german shepard. they *ehr* shared a chocolate ice cream. Big Brother was keeping his cone high, but Big Dog got a help from Middle Child, who pulled his brother's arm, and the dog and the Baby Brother litterally got to eat the cone. Together. Ok, I smiled, wish I had a camera, then tear them apart, but i really wish I had that, right now. I had a p&s but my ibook doesn't handle photoshop anymore (or lightroom or anything else for photo editing) and my printer doesn't like my macintosh. So, instant camera, I'd love to have you!
But you know, maybe, if I showed the pics to mom&dad, they probably wouldn't have been happy…EHEHHEHEH!
I wish I had one of these fantabulous inventions coz with a 7month old (eh?! already?!) who's always growing and getting into more and more mischief, It would be nice to "capture the moment" and have the instant show-and-tell stylee fotos. Like today, when she decided holding on to the dog's tail while in her walker was much more efficient than using her own foot-power. Adorable, cute, but the RSPCA might not have been impressed had I let her hold on til I'd run to find the SLR to get a snap.
i was backpacking in peru last month, and had borrowed a friends instax camera for the trip. in all the little villages we stopped through, i took photos of the children and gave the instant shots to them & their families. it was likely the most gratifying experience of the trip, especially as many had never even seen photos of themselves. i'd love to continue the experience and have my own instax for all my backpacking trips, so kids everywhere i go can experience the "magic" of the instant photo and i can experience the magic of seeing their little faces beam when their faces show up on film.
I wish I had an instant camera at concerts when you meet awesome people in line or on the floor and you may never get the chance to see them again, but at least every one can have at least one memorable photo of the occasion.
A co-worker was just demonstrating her Jazzercise moves in the breakroom. Having an instant camera would help me explain this better than me telling the story and re-enacting to my wife.
to capture and remember the brief time i get to spend with dear loved ones far away.
