when i was in los angeles for a few days last week, i took a lot of photos…as i do…but with my “sesame says” course running, my commercial clients, and my life… i have not had the chance to sit down and actually edit them all. here are a few. i can’t believe how grown up these two are getting. it was so amazing to have a chance to spend some time with them.

this past weekend, my kick-ass husband rode 210 + kilometers for charity and gemma made an adorable “go, daddy, go” sign for him and we waited to wave it for him at the finish line. look, isn’t it cute, oh wait, that’s right, the photos are unedited on my computer and will stay there for at least a week if i keep up this schedule. she really wanted to take some shots to school to share with her class as well, but see, the printer ink, well, that should arrive in the mail just about the time i finish editing the photos.

I very often wish I had an instant camera… I miss Polaroids! I'm a photographer, but you currently wouldn't see evidence of that in my home. I keep busy with the shoots of my clients that I don't often take the time to process photos that I have taken of me and my husband and our pets… if I took any photos at all. Something like this would be splendid for just grabbing and taking and having immediately for display purposes!
Last time I saw my grandfather, I was hanging out with him in his office and he grabbed his old Polaroid camera and snapped a photo of me and we sat and watched it develop. There's just no way to replicate this with a digital!
There's something so magical about pola…I mean instant print cameras, that hasn't been nor will ever be replaced by digital cameras. The beauty of an instant print camera is that each photograph is once of a kind. There will be no other prints like it, and I love that forced uniqueness. It reminds me of a time when we had to think through each shot before we snapped it; when photographs didn't pile up in folders on our computers never to be printed. Some of my favorite photographs of my friends are instant print photos, and I keep them tacked up on the wall to remind me of how much I love and miss them. I recently moved to Austin, TX from Michigan, leaving all my old friends behind. If I had an instant print camera, I would photograph all the new things I see and people I meet every day so I could add to the collage of my life. I can no longer find film for my old Polaroid cameras, so I haven't been able to keep my project going. I feel like I'm missing out on remembering a huge chunk of my life by not photographing it with an instant print camera like I used to.
I would love to have an Instax so I can shoot a test photo or two during headshot sessions to test the light, and then I would give the snap to the client as a memento. With some kind of company logo stickered to the back of course.
I just wish I had an instant camera when I'm having a laugh with my friends, whether it be in the park, at the shops or even just at home. The memories that would otherwise fade away, could be treasured forever with an instant camera.
I use to document a trip or day with my Polaroids and place them in order in a photo album to tell the story of that trip. Haven’t been able to do that anymore and digital photos just aren’t the same.
I wish I had an instant camera from between 11 and 2 every day. The view from my desk is a somewhat busy street, and the most active time, with the best light streaming through the blinds, is from 11 to 2 every day, no matter the weather. I wish I had more than just my brain to remember all of this by, and as I don't drag my DSLR to work with me every day, it gets frustrating when the teenagers roll by on their skateboards, making a sound akin to a train on rickety old tracks. I wish I had an instant camera in winter and fall, when leaving my DSLR in my car is a scary prospect, as I am forgetful and tend to leave my bags, clothes, shoes, half-drank sodas, in my car. I want to capture the leaves and the snow in an instant, without time to second guess or edit what' already happened. I wish I had an instant camera for every beautiful face I've ever seen, and every beautiful person I want to keep around me forever. I want to keep the photos in sacks, separated by Jumpers or Floaters, like Betty in Dead Like Me.
I wish I had the money for an instant camera.
I wish I had an instant camera just about always, but most recently, I wish I had it along while running my very first marathon last weekend. I wasn't focused on time, just taking in the experience, which was absolutely phenomenal! It was a beautiful course and I met some really great people along the way. My friends and I had a disposable camera with us and snapped some shots but still haven't gotten the pictures developed… We offered to take some shots of some of the fabulous people we met along the journey, but didn't have anything to write emails on, etc. so for the most part we didn't have many takers. What better souvenir of such an empowering occasion than a picture on the spot?
Thanks for this contest!
I would loved to of had an instant camera at any time when out with friends, having lunch or spending time in the pub…playing quaters and remenising about things we did at school, the people we knew and what they are up to now…enjoying good friends and good times!
I really wished I had an instant camera when my 5-year-old son recently had a playdate with a friend he hadn't seen in a long time. He's not usually too affectionate, but he was overwhelmed with joy at the sight of his friend, and gave him a big hug.
I wish I could say I had a reason for wanting this like having kids who are going off to school or eating hot fudge sundaes or a long distance relationship that needed a lil love. But the fact of the matter is I dont have kids or a long distance relationship. My partner lives 15 min away and we work together and my lil sister (who is not so little at 17) is the closest thing I have to a child.
I am a recent college grad of art school who is looking for a a little more art in her life. I love digital photography but after a while there are only so many photoshop brushes or textures you can use to give you a nostalgic feel and in the end nothing is as good as that lil white instant picture frame. Ive always wanted to do a 365 day photo project with instant film but finding a polaroid lately is way too expensive and this is the next best bet. I plan to start on January first and write a blog daily with a new photo each day. Id love the instant camera for it =)
Everyday! I think of my old polaroid that I had when I was a kid and I'd love to see what my own two sons would capture with this little beauty! Not to mention what I'd want to photograph myself!
I wished that I had an instant camera just five minutes ago when my 3 and 4 year old boys were pretending to be the rock band KISS while we were at the park. They were singing "Rock and Roll All Night", playing air guitar and jumping off of picnic table benches in time to their music. Their father told me that he used to put on the same performances in his mother's backyard when he was a little boy. I wish I could have captured that moment for him.
I wish I had an instant camera whenever I'm traveling and meet people whom I know will never get online to see the pictures I took of them. I want them to have a memory of me, a name they might stumble upon again some day, a treasure…
I have been dying to get this exact camera for so long. What a fantastic giveaway! Thanks Photojojo and Rachel! I just got the Photojojo book (which is amazing) and I would love to have an instant camera more than ever now to create the photo mosaic project or the everyone who comes and visits you wall. What fun! Also, being a photographer I think it is so great to be able to give clients little instant photos at their shoot (and use them as props), and there is nothing like making your clients happy! Plus nothing beats film and holding a real photo in your hands =) …. fingers crossed!…
When don't you need an instant camera? Remember that picture you took of us *last* Christmas? Yeah. Can I get a copy of it? Uh, how soon do you want that? Well as soon as you can get it. Ok, sure, that will only take me a few days/weeks to find on one of the drives… wherever the drives may have walked off to!
If I could just give you the picture when it's taken so much stress would be removed from my disorganized life of organized chaos!

I'd LOVE to have an instant camera when traveling in rural Thailand, so I can give the Thai people a copy of the picture I take of them, rather than simply showing it to them in my camera's little LCD. I always feel like I've taken something from them but given them nothing in return
This is such a cool contest!
I love traveling and taking photos of people, and I love sharing the photos I take with the random (and not so random) people I meet. With a fuji instax camera I could actually share the photos with them immediately, and not be the only one with the photo memory of the moment we shared. For instance, in Guatemala last year, I took a photo of a group of kids standing outside their parents little "shop". They were all smiling, some hiding behind their elder siblings, some laughing and I really wished they could've seen the photo I took of them together, but without a fuji instax that wasn't possible.
An instant camera would have come in handy the time I was shopping with my dear mother and she reached into a bin of potatoes to grab a bag, lost her footing and tumbled in. There was 5 foot tall mother was yelling at me to help her out and I could do was laugh at her. She refused to let me ask the store if they caught it on their security cameras.
Just today my 4-year old daughter looked adorable leaving Grandma's house, running to the car with her blonde curls bouncing behind her in her pink rain coat, purple rain boots and pink princess umbrella. I was super disappointed I couldn't capture it on film right then and there exactly as she was. She will never be in that same outfit, in that same spot, with the exact same amount of rain falling around her and the same exact look of joy on her face again. Breaks my heart.
I wish I had an instant camera about two minutes ago when I scrolled down past the contest information and saw how many entries there were. There was a glimpse of "hmph, how do I win now??" on my face, a slightly bratty expression I haven't felt on my face for years!! Haha. I wish I had an instant camera all the time, I'd give my special places a touch of "I was here!" by snapping and then leaving the picture there for whoever else shares my places to see that they're not the only one who loves it, and I'd love it so much if they did the same and there was a random collection left behind.
If I had a Fuji instant camera I’d probably be a little more generous with letting my 3-yr old snap some photos. I only have 6 prints left in my Polaroid and I am guarding them like crazy! We are currently at a 1 photo every 3 months pace.
Sometimes I wish I had an instant camera because there are just some moments that recquire an instant print.
I wish I had an instant camera so I could take pictures of my 87 kids (a whole marching band's worth) and hand them to the kids and their parents right away instead of making them wait for processing and upload. These kids work so hard through the week to give a great show at contests every Saturday. After all of the focus and work and their amazing performances, they are just kids hamming it up for the camera. And I'm totally crazy about them!
i wish i had an instant camera whenever my 2yr old nephew decides to be momentarily cute….by the time i reach for the digital camera, turn it on and turn back to him…he's moved on to being a stinker again. If i try to film him he stops what he's doing and wants to watch himself on the lcd screen. And instant camera would be ideal in this situation. I miss polaroids.
I wish for an instant camera during all those times I am with my friends and my family. I want to capture the smiles and laughter and keep them with me so I can always remind myself of the happiness they bring to my life when I cannot see them or when I am in need of some cheering up.
I would love an instant camera. I have a DSLR and I am so careful to take good photos with it and so critical of my work. I think an instant camera would give me a sense of freedom and creativity I am sometimes missing with my DSLR.
The most recent time I wish I had an instant camera was when I was leaving home to go back to school last weekend and had to say goodbye to two of my favorite people (the boy and my niece). The three hour drive would not have been so lonely if I'd been able to take pictures of his weird little half-smile that makes me nervous and her huge, squinty-eyed one that shows all of her eight little baby teeth, and then stuck them to my dashboard to keep me company.
At the airport after visiting my mom's side of the family for the first time in over 20 years. As I watched my aunt hugging her sister (my mom) and crying because she didn't know when she'll get to see us again. I wish I could have snapped an instant of my aunt & mom to give to her then.
i always wish i had an instant camera!! i used to love when my mom would take a picture and i could see it come right out of the polarioid’s “mouth”. i never had one of my own…the closest thing i got to it was a polaroid iZone mini instant cam…the ones that took cute little photographs that had stickers on them. i would like to upgrade to a grown up camera now, please! =) love the look of the new one! =D
Last week my boy cried
Every morning at school
Today he ran in!
A time when I really wished I had an instant camera was the first day I met my pen pal. We've been writing letters back and forth for a year now and we finally met each other a month ago when she came to visit. She didn't bring a camera with her and the batteries on my camera died an hour into the day before we had taken any pictures. Thats the big problem with digital cameras–the batteries can die at any time. Although you can run out of film, you can plan ahead. I wish I had had an instant camera so that we could have taken pictures together and each of us had something instant and concrete to take back with us to our normal lives apart from each other.
I wish I had one every time I am with friends and the evenings get wacky with wine, funny stories, and all that girl stuff.
I don't know what it is, but people stare at me a lot when I'm out in public. Its mostly older mexican/hispanic/latino people. They always give me this look like they recognize me as one of them, but somehow I am a mockery of the cultural norms or something. Maybe its the nose ring, but there are no extreme hair cuts/colors or body mods, so I'm not exactly sure what they have to stare at. Its times like these, though, when I wish I had an instant camera so I could either take their picture (because sometimes the look on their faces is just priceless) or to take a picture of myself to give to them so they can have something to remember me by. Haha. As funny as it sounds, I am totally serious!!
An instant camera would always be handy, but a time in particular that stands out in my mind is when I went to New Orleans to help a college friend rebuild his hometown of Slidell. It was five months after Hurricane Katrina and there was still so much to do. That week changed MY life, and I wish I had an instant camera to take photos with all of the incredible individuals we met and worked beside as we did our small part to get their lives back on track. But a camera, let alone access to a computer, or developing pictures at Wal-Mart, were not top priorities and rightfully so. I have specific memories, like when a dad found his son's favorite stuffed animal… or when a brother and sister played 'pirates' with wood from their old porch…. capturing these moments and giving the photos to the families would have reminded them to persevere, to stand strong and that they weren't alone– even after we were gone. At one point we had thought of sending photos back to the people, but few had permanent addresses. An instant camera certainly would have been a gift to us all!
Those are some adorable kiddos! This has been on my wish list ever since I saw the images Elsie Flannigan was making with one. I would totally use the Instamax at an upcoming Halloween party I'm going to. People can instantly take home the photos from that night! And how cute of a collage would they make?
Thanks for doing the giveaway!
I wish I had this instant camera when our whole family was together. My sister moved to Indiana this summer and she could have taken the pictures with her!
I wish I had an instant camera I could pull out every time my son pulls me in to give me a big kiss on the cheek and says I love you, Mommy. Especially when we're snuggling in bed before he falls asleep and he caresses my cheeks and whispers to me that he loves me and that he just farted. I'd love to be able to have an instant camera sitting on my night stand so I can grab and snap away.
last week while running errands my 5 year old twins and i decided to stop in and visit with my SIL and 9 month old nephew. there were so many tender moments – the kids were being so loving with him. they'd be occupied with exploring a house that is not their own, but would take a few moments to stop and look in his eyes or pat his har.. and he would crawl behind them, pause and follow them with his eyes in awe. sooo sweet!! i would have LOVED to have pics of those random moments and to be able to share them with my family.
Ah the greatness of instant,
even though I've never used and SLR or 'real' camera (since they don't come cheap)
I think getting to grips with this instant one would be just the thing to start me off, the interest is right there, I'm always getting down on my hands and knees looking a bit of a fool but checking out those angles and perspectives that I'd love to catch on film.
Secondly some of my closest friends will soon be heading off to uni in various places around the country and not only would it be a nice thing to send them a funny snap when they need a pick-me-up, a tangible object they could put on their dorm room wall, but also a great activity for their visits home – group photo sessions and photo strolls around our town. Because, I'm not dumb, I know this is the point they're going to start having very different lives and some will move in with boyfriends and others will go traveling the world (and then I'll ask them to take the camera to send *me* picks of their amazing adventures hah) and I won't see some people properly again :/ So all the mushyness aside it'd just be nice to have some instant memories to share and collect and keep of our Good Times before life gets serious and we try to grow up
Oh so many moments…I fear I am suffering from that syndrome where the second child doesn't get nearly as many photos.
I keep finding myself faced with these adorable moments with the baby or even with the two children together but without my big heavy camera all the way across the house. Plus, an instant camera would mean my 4 year old could be even more involved and excited by photography. And the photo craft/gift possibilities are endless!
How I wished I had an instant camera!
You have the opportunity to share that special moment captured right away! I know digital cameras have LCD viewers but it's just not the same. You have that moment 'there'.. and it will last forever. Besides, you can also gift it to the person that shared that moment… or maybe you captured a special moment of a kid in a playground. That mother will be grateful forever.
Let's not forget the anxiety and thrill you get evertime you wait for the photo to appear. It's like magic!
I would also love to have one to do some kind of project like 365 and make a beautiful scrapbook out of it.
Good luck to everyone!!
I've always loved your pictures Rachel..
Bye!
An instant camera would be great to take photos to attach to model releases for my up and coming photo business! Also to play around with my kids and their friends in the park and give away the prints. Also all kinds of artsy stuff.
I wish I cad an instant camera the day my son Finn was born.
I had a c-section, and everything was fine until he had a hard time breathing. They whisked him away and I was just laying there drugged up and unable to move. It was hours before i was able to even see a photo of him, an entire day before I was able to see him in person and hold his hand, and an entire week before I was able to hold him becasue he was on a ventilator with a chest tube born his collapsed lung. I don't have any photos of his first moments and it was a week before I could get a clear photo of him without the wires and the breathing tube.
Well, after seeing how many comments there are I doubt I have much of a chance, but I would love to win the camera too!
I really can't think of one time because I really would love to have the ability to take pictures ALL the time. I love how compact this little guy is and i could pop it into my bag and be ready at any given moment to catch all the great things that happen daily.
Hurray for instant photography!!!
xo
Heather
I wish I had an instant camera when I see something in an odd angle or some unique flower spot and think it can only be caught if I don't know for sure what it will look like when it comes out on film and instant is best.
I wish I had an instant camera every single day. There are so many times a day that I just want to freeze the moment and remember it forever. People’s expressions, random scenes, etc. Life is short, as I’ve learned, and you never get those moments back. With pictures, you can tell the story to other people and almost, almost relive it.
I always wish I had an instant camera on hand. I'm absolutely awful about getting prints for friends and family but with an instant camera I could just hand them right over.
Oh wow that camera looks SO cool! Oh how my kids would love that… and me… oh I'd love that so much. I often can't be bothered lugging my DSLR around with me. The big camera plus all the other kids stuff I drag around is just too much…. but you know the time you don't take the camera is the time you always see something you'd wish you could photograph. Usually some super precious kid moment that you kick yourself over for days!
Wow your little man is looking so grown up! Hope your little girl is over her croup quickly too.
