not that it really matters to him

by sesame on January 7, 2010

but the boy got his very own super hero bath soap. i mean, if he has to suffer the slight indignity of wearing his sister’s hand-me-down decidedly non boy jammies, i thought he might appreciate this effort on my part.

he did.
and no, there are no photos of kieran in the jammies.

we have not really tried to steer kieran to stereotypically boy toys, but he is car obsessed. this house is flush with dolls and other sweet trappings of a five year old sister. he will pick up one of the babies and give it a cuddle and either toss it or carry it to clover.
he will not pass by anything with wheels though and anything with wheels is “caaaaaaar”. even trains. “choochoo” followed immediately by “car”.
do people do genetic research on this? they must.

and for everyone who comments about how my house and children (and photographs for that matter) always look so clean and tidy, may i present a behind the scenes shot for your amusement.
behold the filth! on the child, on the floor, on the camera lens (my new texture technique, get splashed with loads of superhero bath water, rub wet lens with t-shirt and don’t look closely)…at least the laundry is clean.

and child! put down the dangerous stick for the photo, please!

oh Rachel, I just love your blogs! yay for superhero bath soap (organic even!) and love the last photo of the (mess) with little Clover and her sharp object. such wonderful photos. I hope to take ones as well as you someday.

Amazing isn't it how almost all boys automatically take to cars. Stijn loves anything with wheels…calls all of it car as well. He even makes the car sound when playing with his cars. And when I pick him up from daycare he doesn't greet me…he just calls 'car, car!' meaning he wants to play with the big cars in the hall before we go home :)

Adorable (even the 'filth') – and I hear you on the genetic thing. I have two of boys, one of which came out yelling car and loving everything 'fast'.

love the BEN 10 truck…Kieran looks so happy. My boys are all boy, and they have 4 sisters to influence them, but it IS genetic….hehe
your kiddos seem so big now. walking, playing with trucks time flies.

Love it!! In other words YOU ARE NORMAL!! Our place is the same as we have been spending a bit of time outdoors in our new sleds having LOTS of fun in the snow (sorry!!). It doesn't take little boys long to start showing their love of things that move. Heath LOVES cars, motorbikes, quad bikes, motocross bikes, you name it if it goes fast HE LOVES IT!!

i love reading your blog! my son enjoys wearing his big sister's tutus (i do have photos) and nurses her dolls. i know i need more boy toys but when he twirls in the tutu it's just the most precious thing!

Kieran looked like he was really enjoying his bath! Poor guy having to wear his sister's jammies. He doesn't really know yet, though. I think the car thing is hard-wired into boys. My hubby has been a car-nut, since a little kid, too. Cute picture of Clover, even if she does have a stick! LOL! My house has fluff on the floors, complicated by a constantly-shedding dog. We could probably vacuum everyday, but we don't. Now that it's winter, we have snowy boots on the floors also making them dirty. Not everyone remembers to wipe their feet.

it looks like Clover is brushing her teeth. :)

I actually thought that it was a toothbrush she was holding until I read the last bit of your blog entry.

Oh my son is three and still cannot pass something with wheels without playing with or pointing at it. His favorite thing in the world is something with wheels.

of course brushing her teeth seems like a torture…chewing on a dangerously long stick, no problem.

Oh good…you are REAL with washing strewn out of the laundry. I LOVE visiting your blog, but I seriously am in awe of your gorgeous, clean and very light filled house! And your kids…they're adorable – and my 10 month old prefers the long stick in the mouth too – especially when visitors are here!

I went to a women's college. I had a girl and a boy. I swore that I could subvert the paradigm.

You're so funny. :) If it's any consolation, for a second there, I thought Clover was doing her share of cleaning by brushing her teeth.

Boys will be boys, there was a time when one of my nephews stopped walking to point out Airplanes and was planning to buy a yellow motercycle. He has moved on to Tools, but when we went to a store he was crying for one of those big cars you can ride in.

it just is.

It cut off half my original comment.

'Cause….yeah, but no.

I also thought I could subvert the need to vacuum regularly. That went just about as well.

hi….. quick question for you. your photos are simply spectacular and as a new photography hobbyist…. you genuinely are my inspiration. i have bought two sets of presets – the first step and round two. i thought i would find the preset "golden girl" which a friend of mine used on one of her photos and i have not. will i find it in the basics or the extras?

p.s. the presets are incredible.. thank you for creating them and making them available.

love the laundry shot! A lady came up to me at a market and said she had to meet me because my house always looked so clean! oh no I said, I just make sure I photograph in a clean tidy spot and move things out of the way if necessary. Once I did show my back couch which is where clean laundry waits to be folded and put away!

thanks for the little spot of reality!!! your house does always look immaculate!!!

my boy twin loves cars and trains but also loves to push babydoll in a pram around!!!!!

The filth picture brings me more joy than you can imagine. I live in a teeny tiny house with 1 husband, 4 kids 11 and under, 1 large dog and 1 fluffy cat. If I ever got a picture where there wasn't filth hiding off to stage left, right or in the orchestra pit, I might just throw a party!
