went to a market on the weekend and gemma spent her pocket money on some beautiful new sunglasses by Frankie Ray.
she even bought the case to keep them from getting scratched. all her other sunglasses are so scuffed she can’t really see out of them and she will not wear them as much as she should.
while i suggested the purple and peta suggested the white, gemma had her mind made up on the rainbow. it was her money…her decision.
she felt powerful.
gemma also got her hair braided by candy hair who were also at the market. not so much a braid, more like a headband. it was so perfectly done that i could hardly look at it for envy i felt…that woman was a magician and that braid was something i will never be able to recreate. it also made for an amazing lioness mane when taken out before the shower.

Just beautiful.
My favorite part of braids when I was little were the waves after you took them out, as well as the slight relief your scalp feels!
Those sunglasses were a great purchase, I think… And hopefully the start of a life long obsession, lol! Do you think she will take great care of them, especially since she bought them herself?
just loved the lion hair and the sunglasses !
these are all so gorgeous.
Gemma has a special beauty, she looks deeply and has the best skin tone. She´s becoming really pretty… and seems like beauty is garnished with strong personality… oh my, dear mother.
these are just beautiful
This editorial style here is very creative – great work. Love the compositions and the B/W window shot is fantastic!
love these images. the camera loves her… well that and so does the woman who shoots the pictures : )
Love the way you document everyday life for you and your family..you've created a lifelong treasure..beautifully created I might add.
Gorgeous.
Gemma has always been a wonder to watch grow, and I wish someday to meet such a girl. Time to save up for tickets to Aussie, and you better get your new guest room ready, cause Ariel's coming down to visit! Sigh. Unfortunately, I am kidding. I've loved watching these beautiful kids grow, but with the economy[and my mom], I simply cannot afford to visit Melbourne for one of my life dreams[I'm only twelve, how many dreams can you get by then?]; a flight to Melbourne to meet you and your family, along with being able to afford some personal photography lessons from ya. Then again, I'm twelve years old, broke, and I live in Texas. Hmph.
Yet, I feel so privileged to read the blog, and get an inside view of what goes on in your life. I guess that'll have to do[for now atleast. (:].
Have a nice day/night/whatever it is where you are. (:
That b&w photo of Gemma is fabulous! Those subtle highlights across her face from the blinds…exquisite. Even if you can't braid like crazy hair, you're certainly a magician of light!
O Rachel the last picture is stunning! It reminds me of Sally Manns work
dont worry they're quite easy just watch someone do it and with some practice it will be prefect
and of course gemma's cute enough to pull off an imperfect one
hey rachel – this doesn't go along with this post, i realize, BUT: can you please shed some light on where you have found toddler jewelry for kieran and clover? i'd love to get some for my little one…
These are absolutely adorable! The lighting in the second one is gorgeous. I really enjoy how blissful the first two are. May I ask, how much were the sunnies? I would love to get them!
the sunnies are priced on the website, i think, but they were on special at mathilda's market for only $10.00 plus an extra $5 for the case.
That’s a great bargin! The site says they’re $40! If only I lived in australia rather than Canada, I’d be getting somewhere.
She is such a sweet girl.
What a sweetheart. I remember the wonderful independence I felt when I saved up and purchased something with my pocket money. It started with Push Pops but ended with my first pair of stilettos. Then I got a job, and my shopping reached another sphere, hehe. I love love love the window shot.
