Wow, that title sure is a mouthful. On Saturday, I will be up in Sydney speaking at the Nuffnang Blogopolis Australian blog conference. Luckily I will be giving a session on Simple Steps to Blog Photography That Doesn’t Suck and not one on writing catchy yet simple blog post titles. This is going to be fun. I am not going to speak at bloggers, but with them. Let’s gather the chairs in a circle, share a coffee and work this stuff out. I am going to cover the Why as well as the How and the What. Telling readers your story in simple frames created with the tools you already have. Creating images that are worthy to illustrate the blog you work so hard on. And most importantly, creating images that hook readers in. That is what we are going to cover. Grab a snack** and get ready to work.

I see people posting helpful packing lists and reminders for the conference*, so I thought I should let you know what you should bring for your session with me.
Ready?
Your camera, a pen and paper (ok, tablet, laptop, phone…where ever you like to take notes these days) and your problems (the photography related ones.) That is it. Simple list, but those things are important for getting the most out of my session.
I have prepared my simple steps and I will guide you through what I think you need to know, but you have me for 50 minutes…ask me things. This is not the time to be shy. I will not be nervous, you should not be either. I will not have a new outfit for the day and I will not notice if you do. This is about a shared passion of visual storytelling and that is exciting. I am so grateful that we have this opportunity to meet and talk.
Some of the things in addition to tech and gear talk that I will cover are:
Why I never watermark my images.
Learning the easiest lighting situation that everyone can master. I will even tell you the three cheap things you can buy at the craft shop and office supply store that will immediatly improve the most important part of your photography.
I will teach you my method for “reading” photographs and that will be your guide for how to take better ones from here on out.
Hold on…I will teach you what reading a photograph is all about first.
And as I said before, this is all in addition to the most basic framework of technical details that is the basis of good photography.
This is not just for Mommy bloggers. Fashion, craft, food, review, and travel bloggers… anyone interested in taking better pictures, this talk is for you.
See you there.
*My packing list reads more like this: Please don’t forget enough undies and your toothbrush…again.
**I make KICK-ASS popcorn on the stove. We will not be talking about that though.

I am so gutted to miss this – gutted.
Truly gutted to be missing this session. I’m looking forward to the notes!
see you there:)
You should make an ebook with this content. I know I would love to buy it
Will add it to the list!!!!
Second this!!
Ha ha! I was going to ask for something similar. I really want to know about why you choose not to watermark. I hate, hate, hate watermarks but it kills me every time I find a stolen photo so I’m constantly on the fence about it.
Looking forward to your session Rachel!
I’m SO looking forward to Blogopolis, I hope to catch your session too, I could definitely use help with photography.
I wish I could go! but I live way, way, way too far. Hope people embrace this oportunity! Whenever you come to Brazil…let me know!
This session sounds absolutely amazing – I can’t wait. When I started my blog I didn’t include photos at all (which is odd as I take millions of them!) and only just realising the importance of a good picture to illustrate a story. Really looking forward to hearing what you have to say!
didn’t make it to sydney, sounded so good. Will you be sharing your secrets with the rest of us. What about if I make you a batch of scones in exchange?
