At Gemma’s last appointment, the doctors were able to see that the fractured humerus is finally healing, literally by building new bone around the break. Unfortunately the whole thing is set at a bit of an angle, but since all the nerves are fine and she is no longer in a lot of pain, they have decided to avoid surgery. Kids’ bodies are magical and we have been assured that as the bone remodels, it will straighten out with growth. They will monitor the progress with X-rays.
I am so proud of this kid. Just a few weeks ago she was unable to walk for the pain and within days of taking the sling off, she is able to straighten her arm and even hold things with that hand. While she will not be playing netball anytime soon, her writing is nice and neat again. And the camera has come out again as well.
I should make a Spotify playlist of the soundtrack of the last month of our life. We have been listening to some upbeat favourites to keep spirits high and feet moving. One Van Morrison song has played over and over during this ordeal and it kind of sums it all up nicely in two simple lines.
From the dark end of the street
To the bright side of the road
