commercial photography

it is so important.  the little things.  the moments.

telling your family’s story in photographs.

it is something i do on an almost daily basis.

out takes from our book shoot this past weekend on this topic with the delightful stafford family (whose twins just happen to be 2 weeks younger than mine).  see more from the shoot over on peta’s blog.

thank you for being such a wonderful family to work with!!!!

So excited to have a fashion story in the gorgeous new magazine MAEVE.  Peta Mazey and I shot and styled this story on Thrifty Fashion for your kids.

Go check out our spread and the whole fantastic magazine.  It is online and it is free… filled with beautiful articles and images.  Be inspired.

while making the new galleries for my redesigned website, i found a lot of things i had never blogged.  often when i am doing commercial work, i am not allowed to share the images until the project is released.  by that time, so much else has been shot, that i forget to blog them.  here are some from a fashion shoot in january.  there are a few more from this range in the kid fashion gallery on my new site.  the site will be up this coming week (if i get back to work creating the galleries!)  my online portfolio has really needed a facelift, so i am very excited for the release of the redesign.

looking at these reminds me how much i really love working with tweens.

there was a time when i was afraid of digital…i had been using film for so long. i knew film and i have to say that there have been moments lately that i really miss it. i miss the look i produced with it and i miss the self control i had while shooting. with a limited number of frames, i did not mess around. i shot more prudently. stylistically, i have gotten so used to such smooth images with my d3, that i found the grain of the film images a bit shocking. something to get used to all over again.

i have spent all day going back through my career of images for a story and i found a few film scans…the shot above was one of them. i never made an effort to digitally convert my entire collection as it is just too much. my garage is stacked to the ceiling with client negatives. (yes, i brought them all with me. no, my husband was not pleased.) despite the storage issue, i think i will be pulling that hasselblad out of the closet and shooting a bit with my old friend.

i also miss shooting in los angeles, but that will have to wait a bit longer.

i know i don’t share a lot of client work anymore. it is for 2 reasons. i am enjoying this space as a daily life photo log of my family and the majority of my work is commercial so it is a while between shoot and when i am allowed to share…by that time, i have moved on to the next thing. i am guilty of having a very short attention span.

the blog has really turned into a daily life photo blog and i love that.
i love it because i get to share the photos that i take everyday anyway
like i have been doing on flickr for almost 5 years, but with more words.
it is also good because a lot of my commercial work can’t be blogged right away and by the time it is released
well, i have moved on to something else and forget to share it here.
but
LMNOP just came out and here are 2 of the shots that i had in this issue

lmnop_diptych

the gorgeous owners of two equally gorgeous boutiques here in melbourne.

make sure you go and download the latest issue of LMNOP as it is filled with wonderful things and it is completely free!
